Sheffield Local Studies Library

Sheffield Local Studies Library collects and preserves secondary (generally printed) sources relating to Sheffield and the surrounding area and makes them available for research. Sheffield Local Studies Library’s holdings include, amongst other things, books relating to the locality and local newspapers (dating back to 1787), electoral registers (dating back to 1841), street/trade directories (dating back to 1774), sale plans and particulars (dating back to late 18th century), Ordnance Survey maps (dating back to 1853) as well as other printed sources such as local magazines, pamphlets, brochures, leaflets, etc. Sheffield Local Studies Library also administers the local historical photograph collection, the bulk of which is digitised and searchable online via Picture Sheffield.
