Sheffield Archives

Sheffield Archives collects and preserves original archival records relating to Sheffield and the surrounding area and makes them available for research. Examples of archival records (which generally constitute unique primary sources) include deeds, letters, diaries, accounts, minutes, maps, photographs, etc. Sheffield Archives’ holdings date from the 12th century through to the present day and include records of Sheffield City Council (and its predecessor bodies) as well as records of local schools, churches and religious institutions, businesses, courts, police, hospitals, charities, political parties, sporting and recreational clubs and societies, families (including collections of landed estates associated with the area) and individuals.
